### Unlocking the bootloader

The bootloader needs to be unlocked to flash custom kernel/system images during
the training. Follow the steps below to unlock the bootloader:

1. Go to Settings -> About Phone and tap Build Number 7 times to enable the
Developer Options.

2. Go to Settings -> System -> Advanced -> Developer Options and enable OEM
Unlock. If this option is greyed out, enable WiFi and connect the device to the
Internet so it can sync with the Google server. You may need to reboot the
device after the sync for the unlock option to become available. If the OEM
unlock is still greyed out after syncing, this device might have a locked
bootloader (e.g., refurbished or telco locked devices).

3. Reboot the device into fastboot mode by powering it off and holding down
Power and Volume Down buttons when powering on until you see the fastboot
screen.  Proceed with unlocking the bootloader `fastboot flashing unlock` and
confirm the unlock operation on the screen. The 'Device state' should now show
'unlocked'.
